The first album of songs was recorded in 1989 mostly in the spare room at Craig's rented house. The drums may have been recorded elsewhere? An Otari 8 track was used to record this along with other rudimentary recording equipment. The album featured songs written at the time of the band's conception as the 'Dead Orbisons' in 1988 as well as songs written following the name change to Brainstorm in 1989 although the selection of songs focused heavily on the live set at the time. At the time of recording original members, Gary Simonite (drums, gig finder, chaos), Karl Eastaway (vocals, attitude) and Clive Rosewarne (? SP) (bass, politics) had left the band and been replaced by Phil Schreck (drums) and Mick Lukeis (bass). Thus, following the stated democratic aims of the band there are many songwriters credited although most of the ideas for songs originated from Karl, Gary and Paul.
This album was made available on cassette only reflecting the dominant method of listening to music at the time as well as being the only affordable way to self-publish and release the album. The cover and insert were designed and printed by James Carter, brother of Craig and a desktop publisher at this time.

Two songs, 'Never Enough' and 'The Scourge' were recorded at JCM Academy studios in Port Melbourne with Phil Schreck at the controls.

These are songs have not been performed live or available as recordings for over 20 years, and we are very keen to make them available again to those who may enjoy and/or remember them.  Remastering has proved to be challenging and is a work in progress; however we're determined to make these songs available with the best possible audio quality achievable.  More than just a "blast from the past", they represent material written and recorded during the very earliest days of the band, a period during which many of the themes and styles were begun which were later developed in more detail.
